Wood Grains (Chest Tattoo)

Background:
As a first tattoo, the client wanted to have something that related to wood. Ironically her last name, Carpenter, is also the profession she’s going to be. Darwin chose a wood grain and colour that isn’t easily specific to a type of wood, so he chose colours that could be 6-7 diff types.

Canadian Nude Art (Forearm Tattoo)

Background:
The tattoo was an original piece from a Canadian artist. The piece, which combines nude art with the images of a woman and a dove, is very powerful and Yovany took every bit of care in making sure the original piece was transferred onto their arm with explicit detail.

Memorial for Dad (Arm Tattoo)

Background:
While we’re on the rose theme in the past few posts, I figured I’d post this one up too.

The design was done by the client’s girlfriend, as a memorial for his father’s passing. Darwin stenciled the drawing and filled in the rest, including adding the banner behind DAD.

When a Cover Up is Necessary: A Better Rose

Background:
The original tattoo (a leo symbol over a rose) was done over a year ago. It was small & poorly done, plus it started to bleed together, to the point where the petals were blending into one blob-looking shape.

For a cover up, the client wanted to keep the leo sign but upgrade the rose. Tara convinced her to go bigger – reason being that smaller tattoos have a tendency to bleed colours together over time (similar to what happened to her original tattoo). In the first photo, Tara stenciled a new rose over top of the old one and kept the leo sign, then filled it in in the second photo.

When a Cover Up is Necessary: Blossomed

Background:
Not sure what was going on with the previous tattoo. In the first photo you can see a cherry blossom (that actually resembles more of a green clover) done in green ink and scarred from the tattoo artist pressing to deep with the tattoo machine (it’s much more visible in the second photo).

The client drove down five to six hours from Penetanguishene based on a referral from a friend. Darwin did a freehand sketch (in the first photo) then covered up with a proper cherry blossom. Unfortunately there isn’t much that can be done for the scarred tissue, but the end result looks 1000% better!

Feathers (Rib Cage Tattoo)

Background:
Rib cage tattoos can be painful, but Yovany’s client stepped up to the plate in contrast to what the tattoo was symbolic for. The feathers are a sign of delicacy and femininity.

Work in Progress: Geisha (Forearm Tattoo)

Background:
Yovany has been busy with the Geishas lately. This one was done as a sleeve for a client who originally had flowers on her arm. Yovany drew a freehand design of a geisha with waterfalls coming down from her shoulder into a river, complete with a landscape and cherry blossom trees. He also added a pagoda and Asian inspired scenery behind the geisha.

The outline and some of the colouring are done and will come back to finish it off soon. Stay tuned.

Machu Picchu Tree (Upper Back Tattoo)

Background:
In the mountain ridge above the Urubamba Valley in Peru, there is an iconic lone tree that the client was interested in having tattooed on her back. The tree is a symbol of persistence and strength. In the above photo is the outline & comparison photo after completition.

The Future is Unwritten (Shoulder Tattoo)

Background:
The slogan The Future is Unwritten was a favourite quote, so he had it put on his shoulder with his “family”; his three siblings’ names. Plans to come back to finish a half or 3/4 sleeve with Peter.
