He became well known for his controversial art exhibitions that displayed the political turmoil happening in Cuba at that time. “I am not a delinquent, I am an artist” was one of his slogans. Yovnay’s artistic abilities come from being in a family that has been creating art for decades.

Yovany is a pioneer in the ‘underground tattoo’ industry in Cuba and has been written about in many books and magazines.  He is the founder of The Association of Tattoo Artists in Cuba and he is one of the first to introduce professional art tattooing.  He left Cuba and came to the United States where he continued his career as painter and tattoo artist.  Yovany has sold his paintings in Europe and South America, specializing in portraits.  Although Yovany’s time is scarce, he manages to find the time for meditation and spiritual reflexion everyday.
