Completed: Toronto Streets & Landmarks (Arm Tattoo)

Background:

Update: It’s done! Taking an artistic view of Toronto’s landmarks, colour has been fully added and it’s set to go – fully mimicking the three original paintings from the client’s favourite artists.

The client is from Toronto’s west end and appreciates urban art and architecture. As a collector, he owns a few pieces from two of his favourite artists who he wanted on his arm. He also wanted Darwin to include his own artwork into the overall design.

The tattoo shows three actually paintings from the artists, Darwin, the Gladstone Hotel, The Great Hall, alleyways of Bathurst Street, and Yonge Street. The piece will take approximately four to five sessions to complete.

Feathers and Birds (Neck & Back Tattoo)

Background:
The client loved birds and was originally looking to have a silhouette done of this tattoo, but later decided on including more detail instead. Darwin added a slight bit of colour to mimi the feather of an eagle.

Thanking the Lord (Back Tattoo)

Background:
This was done for a client who was looking for a big tattoo for his first one. His girlfriend was religious and wanted her influence in making this tattoo, which featured angel wings and a cross. She drew something up for Darwin to work his magic on. The wings wrapped around the front of his chest.

The idea came from an accident while at work where he almost died. He recovered and in respect to God for giving him a second chance, he had this tattoo done.

Custom Family Crest Memorial (Back Tattoo)

Background:

This tattoo was of the client’s family crest, but customized to fit his late father’s personality. Three main things were adjusted, including a freemason symbol in the centre, a snare drum on the left to represent the marching band he was in, and his love for fishing on the right.

Bass Clef for the Audiophiles (Arm Tattoo)

Background:

The client is a bass player and a musician for his entire life. He also got involved with DJing and, for his, tattoo, was looking to have the two worlds combined – incorporating live music with a DJ element.

Darwin designed a bass clef with a 1/4 inch jack from a bass guitar, with an RCA jack used for turntables. The two components on the right of the tattoo are the RCA inputs. The shadow behind the bass clef is an actual bass clef, to symbolize that the tattoo isn’t just wires.

Wood Carving (Upper Arm Tattoo)

Background:

This tattoo was based off of a wood carving from Mexico, one of the pieces of an extensive collection of wood carvings by the client. This carving was his favourite one, and decided to have it put on his arm.

You can be any age to get a tattoo!

Background:
Great example of how you can be any age to get a tattoo! A client came in looking to have a memorial tattoo done for her husband who had passed away. Looking to have him kept close to her, she had an old school heart with his nickname Mev. He was a musician, who the client was kind enough to share some singing tips for Darwin (who is in a band).

She was so excited to get the tattoo that she wanted to have her photo taken with it!

Flock of Angels at Black Line Studio

On Tuesday, something weird happened.

For some reason, the three tattoo artists we had in that day all happened to be working on wings. The three clients didn’t know each other previously either. We thought it was blog worthy so we took a few shots of Peter, Darwin, and Yovany – each creating their own version of angel wings.

Butterfly Cover up (Neck Tattoo)

Background:
While we understand some tattoo ideas may not be decisions at the time, at least we know how to fix them. This lady originally had her ex-boyfriend’s name tattooed on her neck. Darwin came to the rescue and drew up two beautifully coloured butterflies over top “Adrian”.
